The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.

While perhaps not at the equivalent scale as granting clemency to festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. No offenses are on her docket,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of eating roast pork during the holidays, was founded to emulate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, contributed by a local firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a hip-hop line – often for no discernable reason. The trend became so pervasive that a leading lexicon site recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the essence of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”

Attendees enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach croquetas and strong coffee as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
