Manchester United Set to Sign Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Signing for United

Schüller, who has half a year remaining on her deal, is known as a consistent goalscorer for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while applauding the club's fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goal Threat to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The 28-year-old’s signing should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Old Trafford

Securing Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Their recent on-pitch successes feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a club official stated: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, added: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the Champions League.”
