The British tennis star Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from her remaining competitions in 2025 because of a medical condition that has affected her for the last week and a half. The 22-year-old was scheduled to compete in Tokyo and Hong Kong but has decided to fly home to regain her health ahead of launching plans for the 2026 season. Her upcoming training will involve her coach Francisco Roig, as they have decided to continue collaborating in 2026. The tennis professional had her blood pressure taken in her opening round against Ann Li in Wuhan and stopped playing when losing 6-1 4-1 on an oppressively humid day. She again required a doctor's assessment at this week's Ningbo Open, where she lost in three sets to Chinese wildcard Zhu Lin in the first round. She was also playing far from freely in the final set versus Zhu because of a lower back issue that has been a concern at times this year. These outcomes signaled a promising season, in which Raducanu rose into the world's top 30 after a long gap for the first time since 2022, ended with three successive defeats. Raducanu had three match points then was defeated by American player Jessica Pegula in round three in the Beijing tournament last month. The player achieved 28 matches during 2025 and made it to the semi-final round in the Washington tournament, but the highlight of her season was at the Miami event in March. The British number one made the last eight of a premier WTA event, defeating eighth seed Emma Navarro on the way before losing in a three-set match to fourth-ranked Pegula. She worked with Mark Petchey as coach from Miami until Wimbledon, with Roig assuming the role in time for the US Open. The original arrangement with Rafael Nadal's former coach was through the season's conclusion but they will keep working together, with a training block pencilled in late this year. She mentioned that the trial session with Roig after Wimbledon was like a "secret mission" as they aimed to maintain secrecy. She nearly succeeded to defeating top-ranked Aryna Sabalenka at their first tournament together in Cincinnati during August. Roig joined her in the New York tournament, where she reached the third round then falling to Elena Rybakina, the 2022 Wimbledon winner.
